Target Heart Rate

Being able to measure your Target Heart Rate is a way to tell if you are exercising aerobically. Aerobic exercise is the one that burns fat! Jogging, brisk walking, hiking uphill, swimming, bicycling and rowing are all aerobic exercises. Any exercise that works your large muscle groups and gets your heart pumping between 60-85 percent of it's capacity for a sustained period of time is considered to be aerobic.

An alternative method for estimating your heart rate, or the degree of effort you are putting out for exercise is called Perceived Exertion. Some people prefer this method for evaluating the intensity of an exercise session.
